About Sevil Gamer, Psychiatrist

Dr. Gamer has more than 30 years of experience in medicine. She is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist, and graduate of Adult Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy from the Institute of Psychoanalytic Education affiliated with NYU School of Medicine. She developed the adult inpatient Women’s Reproductive Mental Health Program at King’s County Hospital.

Dr. Gamer believes that the stigma of mental illness will eventfully be resolved due to new studies and more people talking about their experiences with different symptoms of mental conditions.

She hopes that people will realize that the brain itself is a human organ that needs to be cared as much as any other organ. She hopes that people routinely have mental health check ups, similar to annual physical exams. Our brain is an integral and fundamental part of our well being and quality of life – let’s treat it with due respect.

She started her career as an ICU doctor and was working in the unique medical field taking care of people with chemical intoxications. Most of them were people who tried to commit suicide. After fighting for people’s life, who were making either impulsive decision at time of the stress, or trying to commit suicide as a result of a long-standing depression or any other illness, and witnessing them suffering and eventually regretting what they did, Dr. Gamer decided to do her best to prevent it instead of trying to reverse grave consequences of people’s actions. So, she decided to became a psychiatrist and since then she devoted her life to help people to work through whatever problem it is and become stronger, learn to value own life, love and respect themselves.

She is always there for her patients, and that’s what makes them trust her and look forward to see her again and again over the years.

She speaks English and Russian.
